Dinner Bell by Jenni Polodna
Hall of Heads by Dan Efran with 'Becca Stallings
See the Constellation by Ed Blair
As played on ifMUD on April 29, 2012

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Dinner Bell written by Jenni Polodna, Hall of Heads written by Dan Efran with 'Becca Stallings, and See the Constellation written by Ed Blair. Week three of the Apollo 18+20 IF Tribute Album games. Narrow Your Eyes by Ben Collins-Sussman and Jack Welch was not played, due to its reliance on graphics and sound. You can learn more about the games, including how to download them, by visiting the ifWiki pages: See the Constellation, Hall of Heads, and Dinner Bell.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing these games, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played these games, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

Floyd | (Man, you're hungry.)

Floyd | It really does look just like your grandmother's kitchen. The oven,
Floyd | fridge, and counter are that same buttery marzipan color, those same
Floyd | seven drawers are next to the cabinet under the sink, even the kitten
Floyd | wallpaper is the same. That motivational poster belongs to the test
Floyd | chamber, though, and has survived its every redecoration including
Floyd | "submarine" and "open grave." The only other difference is a
Floyd | photograph over the oven where your grandmother used to hang the heads
Floyd | of her enemies (mostly crickets).
Floyd |
Floyd | Oh, and the observation chamber where Dr. Beagle is watching you
Floyd | through two-way glass. Your grandmother didn't have one of those.
Floyd |
Floyd | On the counter are a grocery bag, a bucket of wax pears and a ship in

Floyd |
Floyd | This game is Interactive Fiction: we take turns telling a story. I
Floyd | tell you where you are and describe the situation a bit. Then,
Floyd | at the >, you tell me what you (that is, the protagonist) did
Floyd | next: a simple command like TAKE SHOVEL or GO NORTHEAST (NE, for
Floyd | short).
Floyd |
Floyd | Several other commands are usually important: LOOK, EXAMINE something,
Floyd | and TAKE INVENTORY - which you may abbreviate as l, x,
Floyd | and i, respectively. Beyond those, experiment with any
Floyd | plausible actions; I'll do my best to understand and comply. You may
Floyd | even UNDO a command if you find it was a mistake. (And don't forget
Floyd | CREDITS!)
Floyd |
Floyd | (See also [LINK] if you're just getting

Floyd | > CREDITS
Floyd |
Floyd | This game is track 11 of Apollo 18+20: The IF Tribute Album, a
Floyd | collection of Interactive Fiction homages to Apollo 18, a
Floyd | wonderfully energetic and surreal album by They Might Be
Floyd | Giants. The tribute album project was devised and curated by Kevin
Floyd | Jackson-Mead to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album's release.
Floyd |
Floyd | This particular game, Hall of Heads, was written by Dan
Floyd | Efran, with additional story by 'Becca Stallings. It is, of course,
Floyd | inspired by the TMBG song of the same title. It is dedicated to They
Floyd | Might Be Giants, in gratitude for their many excitingly weird songs.
Floyd |
Floyd | This game is implemented in Inform 7, and relies on several Inform
Floyd | extensions:
Floyd | Standard Rules version 2/090402 by Graham Nelson
Floyd | Extended Banner version 5 by Stephen Granade
Floyd | Custom Library Messages version 4/120212 by Ron Newcomb (with special
Floyd | thanks to David Fisher)
Floyd | Extended Grammar version 6/110706 by Aaron Reed
Floyd | Past Tense Commands version 2 by Dan Efran
Floyd | Pronouns version 4 by Ron Newcomb
Floyd | Second Gender version 1 by Felix Larsson (based on original Inform 6
Floyd | code by Fredrik Ramsberg)
Floyd |
Floyd | Hall of Heads was beta-tested by Jack Welch, Melvin Rangasamy,
Floyd | E. Joyce, Ruth, and Zarf.
