ClubFloyd Transcript:
Waker by Kevin Jackson-Mead
Plan 6 from Inner Earth by Adrien Saurat

As played on ifMUD on August 28, 2010

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of two IntroComp Games: Waker, by Kevin Jackson-Mead, and Plan 6 from Inner Earth, written by Adrien Saurat. Both games were originally released as part of the 2010 IntroComp, where they received Honorable Mentions. You can learn more about both games, including how to download them, by visiting the IntroComp 2010 page on the ifWiki.

The transcript begins with Plan 6 from Inner Earth, runs into an issue with Floyd, skips to Waker, then returns to Plan 6 from Inner Earth. If you'd like to skip to the transcript for Waker, click here, and if you'd like to skip straight to the succesful play-through of Plan 6 from Inner Earth, click here.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

Floyd |
Floyd | So here you are, alone, again, in this vast subterranean laboratory
Floyd | dug deep under the peaceful town of Lubbock, Texas. Christmas time,
Floyd | holidays for almost everyone but you and a few other slaves... Nah,

Floyd | heroes. Working for the government is nothing but a privilege to be
Floyd | cherished.
Floyd | You're sitting in a steel chair, watching a small TV. Sitting in a way
Floyd | only apes would be believed to be able to sit, but hey, boredom has
Floyd | killed your ability to keep your back straight a long time ago. Your
Floyd | favorite show, "You bet your life", is about to begin but you still

Floyd | have to run the safety check with the computer terminal, like you've
Floyd | been doing every hour since the beginning of your shift.
Floyd |
Floyd | So, let's roll!

Floyd | In the Z51B bunker laboratory
Floyd | Concrete walls, gray for the most part. Some panels here and there,
Floyd | covered with a plethora of buttons and lights. The place has nothing
Floyd | to be liked for. It's nothing more than one of the biggest Boondoggle
Floyd | of the century!
Floyd | Here lies your desk and your favorite chair, and a frozen alien twenty

Floyd | meters ahead of you, protected by several security devices.
Floyd | The main exit is south, but you're supposed to stay here the whole
Floyd | night!
Floyd | There are some other rooms east and west, but without any TV they are
Floyd | just boring and useless places.

Trumgottist says (to Jacqueline), "Thanks. (Let's see if I get the command right this time...)"
Jacqueline says (to Trumgottist), "There you go! :)"

Floyd | >
djfletch says (to Floyd), "x me"
Floyd | Your first weeks here were very exciting. Working on classified files,
Floyd | alien abductions, secret weapons, a real dream job.
Floyd | Until you discovered that here, like in any other place, you have to
Floyd | spend countless hours filling boring documents, reading reports and
Floyd | shaking damp hands.
Floyd |

Floyd | >
Jacqueline says (to EmacsUser), "Good point. (Me, for example. I've played.)"
djfletch says (to Floyd), "x alien"
Floyd | A strong, cold, modern creature from outer space in a strong, cold,
Floyd | modern sarcophagus from inner earth.

Floyd | Made in the USA, as far as you know.
Floyd | The coffin, I mean.

Floyd | terrific power. Switch it on, and the magical black screen gets all...
Floyd | well... black, but with little green characters dancing on it.

EmacsUser says, "Yes, on the keypress-triggered text."
EmacsUser says, "But the timer-triggered text seems stuck."
Jacqueline says (to leandroribeiro), "Sorry about that, I thought you were already here. Let me reiterate the rules..."
Jacqueline says, "If you're new to ClubFloyd, the way it goes is that we play the game in the room. You type commands with the syntax F COMMAND. Please don't whisper commands, and please don't stack multiple commands. It's also appreciated if we gain a consensus before someone changes locations in the game."
Jacqueline says, "Conversation about the game, all metadiscussion, etc, takes place here. To speak on the channel the first time, type #CLUBFLOYD WHATEVER, then after you've established you're on the channel, you can just say ;WHATEVER (though not in caps, of course)."

Jacqueline says, "Just thought I'd ask you, since you're ubersmart, before we give up and move on."
DavidW asks, "I wasn't aware there was a timed section. I suppose I forgot that part?"
Jacqueline says, "Well, it's not so much timed, as forced text."
EmacsUser asks, "The diagnostics are reported with pauses no?"
EmacsUser says, "That was my experience in Zoom anyway."
DavidW says, "well, forced text shouldn't be too difficult. Just type anything."
Jacqueline asks (of DW), "Is it still in your scrollback?"
DavidW says, "yes, but I don't remember how that section worked in a normal terp."
Jacqueline says, "Let me load it up locally. One sec."
Jacqueline says, "Actually, tell you waht."

Floyd |
Floyd |
Floyd | You were never much of a history buff. You've always preferred
Floyd | learning how things work to learning useless facts about the past. But
Floyd | when your friend returned from the capital with tales of the moving

Floyd | statues in the Waker exhibit of the history museum, you decided it was
Floyd | finally time to see the capital for yourself.
Floyd |
Floyd | After arriving, you headed straight for the museum and found your way
Floyd | to the Waker exhibit.

Floyd |

Floyd | Waker Exhibit, First Room
Floyd | The first thing you notice upon entering the first room of the Waker
Floyd | Exhibit is the life-sized statue atop a pedestal in the middle of the
Floyd | room. This must be one of the moving statues your friend talked about.
Floyd | The rest of the room is unremarkable, with stone walls, featureless
Floyd | except for the diorama behind glass on one end. The rest of the museum

Floyd | is to the south, and the exhibit continues to the north.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
Jacqueline says, "(In the interest of speeding things along.)"
Jacqueline exclaims (at EmacsUser), "Thanks!"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x statue"
Floyd | This life-size statue of a person appears to be made of wax. It is of
Floyd | a bald, fat man on the far side of middle age, and it is wearing a
Floyd | plain robe and slippers. It is standing on a pedestal and is
Floyd | motionless, although it appears to be built to allow its head to

Floyd | swivel. The pedestal has a large red button on it.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x slippers"
Floyd | You can't see any such thing.

Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x me"
Floyd | You're the same as ever, wearing the same clothes you always wear:
Floyd | trousers, shirt, vest, and boots, all in black.

Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "i"
Floyd | You are carrying:
Floyd | a black shirt (being worn)

Floyd | a black vest (being worn)
Floyd | black trousers (being worn)
Floyd | black boots (being worn)
Floyd |
Floyd | >
eladnarra says (to Floyd), "x diorama"
Floyd | Yes, there is a diorama at one end of the room, but you find yourself
Floyd | unable to concentrate on it with that fascinating statue sitting in
Floyd | the middle of the room. Once you figure out how it moves, you'll be
Floyd | able to concentrate on the other parts of the room.

Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW asks, "what, no black socks (being worn)?"
EmacsUser says, "Heehee."
EmacsUser says (to Floyd), "remove boots"
Floyd | That probably wouldn't be appropriate.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x pedestal"
Floyd | An ordinary stone pedestal, upon which stands a statue. The only
Floyd | interesting feature of the pedestal is a large red button.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
Trumgottist says (to Floyd), "push button"
Floyd | You press the large red button. You hear a faint whirring sound from
Floyd | the statue. Its eyes light up, and its head moves slowly back and
Floyd | forth.
Floyd |
Floyd | The statue says, "I am Vel. I was the first Waker of the God-King.
Floyd | Unlike the Wakers to follow me, I was not trained for the task."

Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says, "Eyes that light up would be super useful in adventuring."
DavidW says, "Just sayin'."
Trumgottist says (to Floyd), "x diorama" leandroribeiro D
Jacqueline says, "heehee"
Floyd | The area around the diorama is dark, and there is a bright spotlight
Floyd | shining on the diorama itself. The miniature chamber represented is a
Floyd | very lavish bedroom. The most striking feature, and the focus of the

Floyd | spotlight, is some sort of metallic box in the middle of the room.
Floyd |
Floyd | The statue of Vel says, "The first Waking was thrust upon me, and I
Floyd | was ill-prepared."
Floyd |
Floyd | >

djfletch says (to Floyd), "vel, hello"
Floyd | You can't talk to the statue.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
Jacqueline says (to DW), "I have to say, though, that while I agree, it would upset the text adventure universe by negating light puzzles. We can't have that."
eladnarra says (to Floyd), "x box"
Floyd | The box is made of metal, longer than it is wide or tall. It has many
Floyd | wires around it, and several tubes go from the box into the floor. It
Floyd | almost appears as if there is a horizontal seam down the length of the

Floyd | box.
Floyd |
Floyd | You get a strange feeling looking at the box, as if staring at it a
Floyd | bit longer might be the key to interacting with the diorama.
Floyd |
Floyd | The statue of Vel says, "For a look into the first Waking, please

Floyd | interact with the diorama in front of you."
Floyd |
Floyd | >
Trumgottist exclaims, "It could be a whole new kind of light puzzles!"
Ferret says, "Like avoiding calling attention to yourself while trying to get somewhere."
leandroribeiro says, "Yes, like light puzzles that can only be solved in the dark and you have to do something abot it :)"
Ellison arrives, ready to play with the toys. DavidW says, "Gotta wear shades..."
djfletch says, "glowing eyes would naturally be evolved by species that live in grue habitats"
EmacsUser says (to Ellison), "Hi."
Jacqueline says (to djfletch), "haha - good point."
Ellison says, "hey hey. I decided to take my laptop along with me to the pool. swimming can wait a little bit."
DavidW says, "Let's hurry up and interact with the box by staring some more."
Jacqueline exclaims (at Ell), "Yeah, please don't jump in with your laptop. Also, hi!"
EmacsUser says (to Floyd), "g"
Floyd | You stare intently at the metallic box. The spotlight seems to
Floyd | gradually get brighter as the rest of the room fades away. The box
Floyd | gets larger. Or are you moving closer to the box? You can't tell, and
Floyd | you can't look away as the box continues to get larger and larger. You
Floyd | suppose this is what the statue meant by "interacting."

Floyd |
Floyd | When it doesn't seem like the box can get any larger or any brighter
Floyd | everything . . . changes.
Floyd |
Floyd | Please press SPACE to continue.
Ellison says, "hi!"
EmacsUser pushes the green 'space' button.
Floyd |
Floyd |
Floyd |
Floyd |

Floyd |
Floyd |
Floyd |
Floyd |
Floyd | Everything is blackness. You gradually feel another presence, and you
Floyd | hear a voice. It sounds like the voice of the statue, Vel.

Floyd |
Floyd | Yesterday was a glorious day. After weeks of lobbying and debate, the
Floyd | council had finally voted unanimously to awaken the God-King to deal
Floyd | with the crisis with war-like Chelny. The whole priesthood had been
Floyd | out celebrating last night. Well, the whole priesthood except for you,
Floyd | that is, good old Vel, the High Priest's assistant. He never minds

Floyd | being left behind to mind the temple.
Floyd |
Floyd | And so it was that you were the only one to get up before sunrise. You
Floyd | hurried to the High Priest's chamber, only to find that he could not
Floyd | be roused. He sleepily told you to "take care of it" yourself, and you
Floyd | could smell the alcohol on his breath. Since the God-King had to be

Floyd | washed, groomed, and dressed before the noon ceremony, he had to be
Floyd | awoken now.
Floyd |
Floyd | The First Waking
Floyd | An Interactive History by the Museum of Ancient History
Floyd |

Floyd | God-King's Bedroom
Floyd | It took you a few moments to build up the nerve to enter the room,
Floyd | since only the High Priest is supposed to come in here. A lavish bed
Floyd | sits at the far end of the room, with an ornate wardrobe to the side.
Floyd | To the east lies what you presume is the God-King's bathing room, and
Floyd | to the south is the hallway leading out of the God-King's rooms.

Floyd |
Floyd | The dominant feature of the room, sitting directly in the center and
Floyd | lit by a recessed spotlight, is a large metallic box: the God-King's
Floyd | sleep chamber, where you presume he is sleeping deeply.
Floyd |
Floyd | >

DavidW says (to Floyd), "x me"
Floyd | As always, you are dressed in your humble robe and slippers. Your
Floyd | slippers, though, are getting harder and harder to see as your belly
Floyd | has grown larger as you have aged.
Floyd |

Floyd | >
Ellison asks, "did we already 'get through' Plan 6?"
DavidW says (to Ellison), "not really"
EmacsUser says, "It's not cooperating with floyd."
Jacqueline says (to Ell), "It kinda broke."
Jacqueline says, "Maybe."
Ellison says, "wacky"
Jacqueline says, "We'll revisit once we're done with Waker."
Ellison says, "well, I guess there isn't much to do in the game anyhow"
Jacqueline says, "I have a plan. But I am not confident on the execution of said plan."
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x belly"
Floyd | You can't see any such thing.
Floyd |
Floyd | >

EmacsUser asks (of Ellison), "Did you complete it?"
eladnarra says (to Floyd), "touch box"
Floyd | You feel nothing unexpected.
Floyd |
Floyd | >

EmacsUser says, "Or maybe we should discuss sometime else, to avoid spoilers."
Ellison says, "EmacsUser I got to Plan *7*, yeah"
DavidW says, "ha ha"
leandroribeiro says, "I got stuck in verb guessing, I guess :|"
DavidW says, "I think plan 7 is "run away!""
Ellison says, "ha ha"
Jacqueline says, "heehee"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x bed"
Floyd | This must be where the God-King sleeps when he's not in his sleeping

Floyd | chamber. You'd better not disturb it.
Floyd |
Floyd | You must hurry and wake the God-King if he is going to be ready for
Floyd | the ceremony.
Floyd |
Floyd | >

DavidW says (to Floyd), "x chamber"
eladnarra says (to Floyd), "open box"
Floyd | The God-King's sleep chamber is made of metal, and it is slightly
Floyd | bigger in all dimensions than an ordinary coffin. It has many wires
Floyd | around it, and several tubes go from the box into the floor. There is

Floyd | a keypad on top of the sleep chamber, and a horizontal seam defines
Floyd | the lid.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
Floyd | You try to pry the lid open, but it is securely shut.
Floyd |

Floyd | You must hurry and wake the God-King if he is going to be ready for
Floyd | the ceremony.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x keypad"
Floyd | Wires lead from the bottom of the sleep chamber to a keypad on top of
Floyd | the lid. There are ten keys numbered 0 through 9, along with a red key
Floyd | and a green key. You've overheard the High Priest talking about this,
Floyd | so you know that you're supposed to press the keys. However, you have
Floyd | no idea which keys to press.
Floyd |

Floyd | You hear the faint whooshing of liquid from the tubes connected to the
Floyd | sleep chamber.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
Trumgottist says (to Floyd), "i"
Floyd | You are carrying:
Floyd | a robe (being worn)
Floyd | slippers (being worn)
Floyd |
Floyd | >

Trumgottist says, "Of course."
leandroribeiro says, "This keypad "puzzle" I got from just fooling around :|"
Ellison says (to Floyd), "disrobe"
Floyd | What do you want to disrobe?
Floyd |

Floyd | >
Ellison says (to Floyd), "robe"
Floyd | That probably wouldn't be appropriate.
Floyd |
Floyd | >

eladnarra says, "heh"
EmacsUser says (to Floyd), "x keypad"
Floyd | Wires lead from the bottom of the sleep chamber to a keypad on top of
Floyd | the lid. There are ten keys numbered 0 through 9, along with a red key
Floyd | and a green key. You're supposed to press the keys, but you have no

Floyd | idea which ones.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
djfletch asks, "if you disrobe a robe, what is it afterwards?"
leandroribeiro says, "Voyd :|"
leandroribeiro says, "Oops... Void, I ment."
EmacsUser says, "Uh oh. Looks like my connection broke. If you get this message, sorry about the likely belated ``x keypad.''"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "l"
Floyd | God-King's Bedroom

EmacsUser implodes into a quickly fading blip of stardust.
DavidW says (to Floyd), "push chamber"

EmacsUser arrives, ready to play with the toys. DavidW says, "Incidentally, I know how this puzzle is solved, so I should try someone else finish this."
Jacqueline waves and makes an isquiesque departure for home. DavidW says, "er, let someone else"
djfletch says (to Floyd), "x wardrobe"
Floyd | Yes, it's the God-King's wardrobe. It's where he puts his clothes. You
Floyd | can worry about dressing him after you've woken him.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says, "oops. We lost Jacqueline"
Jacqueline arrives, ready to play with the toys. Jacqueline says, "#bound Weee"
EmacsUser says, "Today is not a good day for technology."
Ellison asks, "I have solved this, too. are there multiple solutions to anything?"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "push 0"

DavidW says (to Floyd), "l"
Floyd | God-King's Bedroom
Floyd | A lavish bed sits at the far end of the room, with an ornate wardrobe

Floyd | to the side. To the east lies what you presume is the God-King's
Floyd | bathing room, and to the south is the hallway leading out of the
Floyd | God-King's rooms.
Floyd |
eladnarra says, "I usually start hitting things at this point. Not exactly reasonable~"
Floyd | The dominant feature of the room, sitting directly in the center and
Floyd | lit by a recessed spotlight, is a large metallic box: the God-King's
Floyd | sleep chamber, where you presume he is sleeping deeply.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "e"
Floyd | No need to examine the bathing room first. Even though it's likely
Floyd | much fancier than any bathing room you've seen, you're sure you'll be
Floyd | able to figure it out when it's time. Your first priority is to awaken
Floyd | the God-King.

Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says, "yeah, we're locked down here."
djfletch says (to Floyd), "s"
Floyd | As much as you would like to retreat and go about your normal duties,

Floyd | someone has to waken the God-King. And since no one else can do it
Floyd | right now, that someone has to be you.
Floyd |
Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "kick chamber" leandroribeiro says (to elad), "I think that's reasonable enough :)"
Floyd | You take out some of your frustration on the sleep chamber. It results
Floyd | in nothing except some soreness. If you really wanted to damage the
Floyd | sleep chamber, the keypad and tubes seem like good targets.
Floyd |
Floyd | >

Ellison asks, "does txtdmp or whatever work with I7 games?"
djfletch says (to Floyd), "knock on chamber"
Floyd | You rap your knuckles on the God-King's sleep chamber. Other than the
Floyd | dull metallic clang, nothing seems to happen.
Floyd |

Floyd | >
DavidW says, "sure it does"
Trumgottist says (to Floyd), "kick tubes"
Floyd | You yank on a tube, and liquid spills all over the floor. The other
Floyd | tubes empty of liquid, and the faint humming stops. Louder shirrs and

Floyd | clanks come from the sleep chamber. Then those noises stop, and you
Floyd | hear a loud CRACK as the lid of the sleep chamber pops open. A hand
Floyd | pushes it the rest of the way open, and a figure sits up.
Floyd |
Floyd | You had of course seen paintings of the God-King, but secretly you
Floyd | always thought the beauty of the God-King was an exaggeration. You now

Floyd | know that the paintings were the merest shadow of the God-King's full
Floyd | radiance. He is magnificent, beyond description. You love him without
Floyd | reservation and would do anything for him. You would die for him.
Floyd |
Floyd | The God-King coughs and looks around, eyes focusing on you.
Floyd |

Floyd | "Who are you?" the God-King asks. Before you can find your tongue to
Floyd | reply, the God-King's face becomes confused. "Where am I?" the
Floyd | God-King asks, more of himself than of you. His voice becomes almost
Floyd | panicked as he asks, "Who . . . who am I?"

Floyd | admit that I was so desperate that I just wrecked the God-King's sleep
Floyd | chamber, not thinking about how it might affect the God-King. I later
Floyd | learned, to my relief, that the memory loss was inherent to the sleep
Floyd | process, not a result of anything I had foolishly done. In his
Floyd | inscrutable wisdom, the God-King chose me to counsel him during the
Floyd | first crisis, and so I became the first Waker."

Floyd |
Floyd | Waker Exhibit, First Room
Floyd | The main feature of the room is the life-sized statue atop a pedestal
Floyd | in the middle of the room. The rest of the room is unremarkable, with
Floyd | stone walls, featureless except for the diorama behind glass on one

Floyd | end. The rest of the museum is to the south, and the exhibit continues

DavidW says, "There's a chess puzzle in Zork Grand Inquistor that is solved much the same way."
Jacqueline says, "So, as for Plan 6. Turns out that it is timed, one character/line at a time appearing, but I was able to get it to speed up on my local system with the space bar. I'm not sure that's going to work on Floyd, though."
Ellison says, "weird"
EmacsUser says, "Hmm. Worth a shot at least."
leandroribeiro says, "Shall we try? I never got to the end of that intro."
Jacqueline says, "I guess we could give it one more try. If it doesn't work, and people want to play something else (since the session has thus far had just one short intro), I'd be up for something else. We could even upload something new that's not on Floyd."
