Photo Essay: Meditation on a Leaf

First posted in October, 2003

I have spent the morning wrapped in my favorite blanket, reclined in my favorite chair, listening to soft music and hard rain and gazing out the window. I have been enjoying Aveda licorice peppermint 'comforting' tea.

I have placed most of my focus on a single leaf, one of the few left on the branches of the tall willow that overshadows the alders in my back yard. It is clinging tenaciously to its twig, fluttering like a pennant in the strong gale produced by the day's storm. I've been wondering how long it will be able to remain there, and whether or not it will relent and drift away on the breeze while I'm watching. Beyond the leaf, just outside my focus, clouds are moving by at an amazing pace.
