ClubFloyd Transcript:
Acid Rain by Garry Francis
As played on ifMUD on July 25, 2021

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Acid Rain written by Garry Francis. Acid Rain was released as part of the 2021 ParserComp, in which she took 8th place. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

#ClubFloyd Discussion

DavidW asks, "Maybe try Acid Rain?"
Knight_Otu says, "Sure."
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "load sleepmask acidrain"

CF | You were driving home from the Second National Conference on Acid Rain
CF | when you started getting tired. As it was late at night and you were
CF | in the middle of nowhere, you pulled over to the side of the road for
CF | a bit of shut-eye.
CF |
CF | When you wake up, you find that it's dark and dismal outside and
CF | raining heavily. You'd better get a move on and get the car under
CF | cover. Despite all the protective coating you've applied, acid rain
CF | can still make a mess of your duco.

CF | Outside Your Car
CF | Your car is parked at the side of a lonely country road. The nearest
CF | town is miles away. As you were driving west before you pulled over,
CF | you can go west to the front of the car or east to the back of the
CF | car. The rain is pelting down. It's dark and dismal, but you can
CF | barely make out an old mansion silhouetted against the night sky to
CF | the south.

CF | Vroom, vroom! The car starts up. The big V8 purrs like a kitten. It's
CF | sweet music to your ears. Now let's drive out of here.

CF | Oh, what a night. A flat battery, acid rain, a deserted mansion full

DavidW says, "Old school-ish"
DavidW says, "Acid Rain"
Knight_Otu says, "Acid Rain."
Roger says, "thanks"
DavidW says, "It's on itch.io as part of this year's Parsercomp."
Roger says, "well they nailed the old-school vibe insofar as I can scarcely believe it was released this year"
MoyTravis says, "...ha."
DavidW says, "Someone released an AdvSys game in the comp too."
MoyTravis asks, "A what?"
DavidW says, "AdvSys. An old authoring system from years and years ago."
DavidW says, "anyway, thanks for the game, all. Another one for the history books."
Roger says, "ayup"
DavidW says, "Don't eat any expired caviar."
Knight_Otu exclaims, "Thanks for driving!"
Roger says, "or purple fruit"
Roger says, "yeah DW once again saves the day"
Knight_Otu says, "Don't get caught in acid rain while exploring a mad scientist's lair."
DavidW says, "The scientist so mad, he didn't have a single desk."
DavidW says, "Unless the vanities count."
Knight_Otu says, "But three bedrooms and four sets of sheets."
DavidW says, "and that absurdly long dining room."
Knight_Otu says, "Oh, yeah, almost forgot about that one."
Knight_Otu says, "And of course, a door that locked him and us in."
