ClubFloyd Transcript:
Daddy's Birthday by Ruth and Jonathan
Foreign Soil by Olaf Nowacki
As played on ifMUD on July 11, 2021

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Daddy's Birthday written by Ruth and Jonathan, and Foreign Soil written by Olaf Nowacki. Daddy's Birthday was created by an adult from a transcript written by an 8 year old; it took 15th place in the 2021 ParserComp. Foreign Soil was originally released in IntroComp 2020, where it received an Honorable Mention, and the completed version was released as part of the 2021 ParserComp, in which it took 3rd place (and it was the first of the 2020 IntroComp Honorable Mentions to be completed, so it also won a cash prize.) You can learn more about the games, including how to download them, by visiting the IFDB pages: Daddy's Birthday, and Foreign Soil.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing these games, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played these games, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

CF | Big Bedroom
CF | You wake up in your bedroom. You remember that it is your birthday,

CF | >
CF | > ABOUT
CF |
CF | It all started with a walkthrough of an imaginary game that 8-year-old

CF | game, with Ruth's help. It is possible to play it exactly as in the
CF | original walkthrough, or to enjoy a very different birthday.
CF |
CF | Thanks to the following amazing beta testers: Auntie J; B Slade
CF | (beslayed); Edo; Garry Francis (Warrigal); Giannis Georgiou
CF | (GiannisG); Grandma and Grandpa; Mummy; Rovarsson; Ruth.

CF | You are in the biggest bedroom in the house. Your daughter usually

CF |
CF | > Knight_Otu says, "Or daddy has been 21 for xty years now."
MoyTravis says, "21+ What...what does that...mean."
MoyTravis says, ""Older than 21?""

CF |
CF | Puffing and roaring, the ship slowly touches down on the orange sand.
CF | Then the engines die and it becomes quiet again. Only the sand under
CF | the engines, which had melted into glass, still bubbles and smokes.
CF | Inside the caravel are cool dark passages with small lights here and
CF | there. The ship's distributed processors decide the conditions are met
CF | to wake a pilgrim. So the displays on the pilgrim's sarcophagus begin
CF | to light up and show readings from the sensors inside. Nobody is there
CF | to read them anyway.
CF |
CF | The cervix at the bottom of the sarcophagus opens and the escaping
CF | liquid disappears gurgling in the drain below. The cervix opens
CF | further and further and the body of the pilgrim behind it slowly sinks
CF | down. Finally it slips out, feet first, onto the floor in front of the
CF | sarcophagus. The limp, wet body seems lifeless, but then it begins to
CF | twitch and choke. The pilgrim gasps and eventually she raises her
CF | torso and leans on her shaky arms.
