ClubFloyd Transcript:
Sheep Crossing by Andrew Geng
As played on ifMUD on November 8, 2020

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Sheep Crossing written by Andrew Geng. Sheep Crossing was released as part of the 2020 IFComp, in which it took 88th place. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

CF |
CF | East bank
CF | On your way to Grandmother's house to bring her a cabbage, a sheep,
CF | and a bear, you find yourself standing on a muddy riverbank.
CF |
CF | A small wooden boat bobs in the water.
CF |
CF | To the west, across the river, lies the West bank.
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x cabbage"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > X CABBAGE
CF |
CF | The cabbage is wet.
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x sheep"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > X SHEEP
CF |
CF | The sheep looks warily back at you.
CF |
CF | > MoyTW says, "...lol."
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x bear"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > X BEAR
CF |
CF | The bear is chubby.
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x boat"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > X BOAT
CF |
CF | The boat is just big enough to hold you and one other passenger.
CF |
CF | > MoyTW says, "This is an extended river crossing joke isn't it."
DavidW says, "I'm sure it is."
Knight_Otu says, "Are we just looking... right."
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "So the first step is to take the middle child, the sheep in this case."
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > SO THE FIRST STEP IS TO TAKE THE MIDDLE CHILD, THE SHEEP IN THIS
CF | CASE.
CF |
CF | You seem to want to talk to someone, but I can't see whom.
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "take sheep"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > TAKE SHEEP
CF |
CF | The sheep evades your attempts to pick it up. All you get for your
CF | efforts is a hungry "BAAA."
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "put sheep in boat"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > PUT SHEEP IN BOAT
CF |
CF | (first taking the sheep)

CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x bank"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > X BANK
CF |
CF | (the riverbank)
CF | You look closely at the mud, but your mind is more focused on
CF | questioning the life choices that led you to be examining mud. You
CF | shake yourself back to the present and notice some scraggly grass
CF | poking through the mud.
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "take grass"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > TAKE GRASS
CF |
CF | You pull up some blades of grass.
CF |

CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > GIVE GRASS TO SHEEP
CF |
CF | (the blades of grass to the sheep)
CF | *crunch* *crunch* *crunch*
CF |
CF | The sheep bleats contentedly. Maybe it'll be more cooperative now.
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "put sheep in boat"
CF ] East bank
CF |
CF | > PUT SHEEP IN BOAT
CF |
CF | (first taking the sheep)
CF | The boat sloshes as you deposit the sheep.
CF |
CF | >

CF ] East bank
CF |

CF |
CF | You get into the boat.

CF |
CF | West bank (in the boat)
CF | You are bobbing unsteadily in a boat by a muddy riverbank. The path to
CF | Grandmother's house continues to the west.

DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "drown bear"
CF ] West bank
CF |
CF | > DROWN BEAR
CF |
CF | (first taking the bear)
CF | You attempt to hurl the bear into the middle of the river. With its
CF | great weight, all you succeed in doing is dropping the bear into the
CF | shallows, where it lands with a great splash. You've barely turned
CF | back towards drier land when you're knocked off your feet by a heavy
CF | paw and sent tumbling into the water.
CF |
CF | (press any key) >
DavidW pushes the green 'space' button.
CF ] West bank
CF |
CF |
CF | You sit up and clear your eyes to see the bear lolloping toward you.
CF | Is it angry, or just playing? The wind is knocked out of you a second
CF | time; and as you lie with your face in the mud and a crushing weight
CF | on your back, your last thought is that maybe the bear's intentions
CF | don't matter anyway.
CF |
CF |
CF |
CF | *** You have been sat on by a bear. ***
