ClubFloyd Transcript:
Ocean Beach by James Banks
As played on ifMUD on December 15, 2019

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Ocean Beach written by James Banks. It took 68th place in IF Comp 2019. You can learn more about this game, including how to download it, by visiting the IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing these games, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played these games, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

Floyd |
Floyd | VERB NOUN (e.g. "examine boardwalk") or just VERB (e.g. "fidget") is a

Floyd | You can examine with "examine THING" or "x THING". You can "go north"
Floyd | or just "north" or "n" -- likewise with south, east, and west.
Floyd |
Floyd | You can "get", "give", and "drop" things. What you have is accessible
Floyd | with "inventory" or "i". You can "look" or "l" -- try it and see what
Floyd | it does. "Watch sunset" works, at the right time of day.
Floyd |
Floyd | You can't "talk" to people, but you can "ask PERSON about NOUN" or
Floyd | "tell PERSON about NOUN" or "show NOUN to PERSON". You can "smell",
Floyd | "listen", and "touch".
Floyd |
Floyd | You can learn a little more about this game by typing "about".

Floyd | Down onto the beach, and down to the waves, and you almost touch the

Peregrine says, "I'm not so sure"
Knight_Otu says, "It would seem so."
Peregrine asks, "What is Slowmode?"
DavidW asks, "Longer days, I guess?"
DavidW says, "Which would be sucky."
DavidW says, "I don't know what to make of this game."
Peregrine asks, "What was the point?"
Peregrine says, "Rubies, vending machines... and all that was needed was to watch a sunset when standing in the right place."
Knight_Otu says, "I'd say landscape painting, but I don't feel the writing was up to that."
DavidW says, "hm, I guess it does have the sense of walking on top of a painting."
DavidW says, "I wonder if there's an audio clip we missed when the palace couple sang."
Knight_Otu says, "There definitely was - the game mentioned checking our audio levels."
Peregrine says, "a bit of research indicates that the audio is in the 'director's cut' of the game"
Peregrine says, "so it can't be that important? I mean, hopefully not"
Knight_Otu says, "Also I guess there might be wave sounds when we're outdoors."
Peregrine says, "I feel like we're missing some deeper meaning"
DavidW says, "Life it like a wrapped sandwich you can never eat and also life's a beach."
Knight_Otu says, "Ow."
DavidW says, "Sorry. I couldn't resist."
Knight_Otu says, "Hovels are huge palaces, palaces are tiny hovels."
DavidW says, "well, regardless, I think I'm done for today. I'd like to thank everyone for being here and playing alongside with me."
Peregrine says (to DavidW), "always a pleasure :)"
Roger says, "I was lurking, but you did fine work as always"
DavidW says, "thanks"
Knight_Otu says, "Yeah, we had two games today. Thanks."
DavidW says, "And hopefully we'll get to see Jacqueline next week, cross fingers."
Knight_Otu crosses his fingers.
Knight_Otu exclaims, "'Til next week! Good night!"
Knight_Otu goes home. DavidW says, "I should try looking for a game ahead of time to play. Maybe one of Ryan Veeder's newer ones."
Peregrine hops into the DeLorean and heads off to the future. DavidW says, "Although if there's a pleasant one, that would be better."
