ClubFloyd Transcript:
Theatre People by Michael Kielstra
As played on ifMUD on October 2, 2016

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Theatre People written by Michael Kielstra. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

Floyd | Another openin', another show -- and everybody gets applause but you.
Floyd | It's been fun, but you wish that the audience and, especially, the
Floyd | actors would recognize your contribution to the production. It takes

Jacqueline says, "Sure"
Doug | Theatre People
Doug | A game about curtains, among other things.
Doug | Michael Kielstra
Doug | The dazzle of the theatre: the footlights, the bows, the adoring crowd! It's your job, as a tech crew member, to make sure that the actors and, especially, the actresses, get enough of that. Not for you the ten-minute standing ovation; your lot is to deal with pushy stage managers, issues with the fly tower, and a bartender who, no matter what, flat-out refuses to give you free drinks. Even when you could really use one. Especially when you could really use one...
Doug | Maybe, just maybe, this could be your ticket to the big time. You could single-handedly get the production back on its feet, win the praise and adulation of all, and, possibly, even aid a damsel in distress. Alternatively, you could do your job quietly, stay out of peoples' way, and have no reward but the quiet smugness of an underrated worker. Fame, glory, and a trek in search of rope await!
Lionheart arrives, full of fun, but no funk. Jacqueline asks, "So I guess our first thing is to figure out why the curtain's not going up, but before the first thing, >I and >X ME?"

Floyd ] Introduction to Theatre People
Floyd | This game grew out of my experiences crewing amateur productions in
Floyd | various theatres. Due to my inexperience, I was always the
Floyd | least-respected team member. The game really started to grow in my
Floyd | mind when I realised that some of my ideas were better than the
Floyd | current best ideas but that no-one would really listen to me. I
Floyd | worked out the plot and the puzzles during the intervals of two
Floyd | performances and went home to write it!
Floyd |
Floyd | I have enjoyed interactive fiction for a long time, and this game is
Floyd | inspired in large part by The People's Glorious Revolutionary Text
Floyd | Adventure Game, by Taylor Vaughan. In particular, the way that the
Floyd | puzzles are set up owes much to that superb piece of work. I played a
Floyd | lot of IF before I decided to write any, and this is, among other
Floyd | things, my way of giving back to a community which has provided me
Floyd | with so many hours of fun and adventure.
