ClubFloyd Transcript:
Being Andrew Plotkin by J. Robinson Wheeler
As played on ifMUD on May 3, 2015

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Being Andrew Plotkin written by J. Robinson Wheeler. It took third place in the sixth annual Interactive Fiction Competition and was nominate for several Xyzzy Awards (Best Game, Best Story, Best NPCs, Best Individual Puzzle, Best Individual NPC, and Best Individual PC). It went on to win the Xyzzies for Best NPCs and Best Game. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

DavidW says, "All three are on Floyd; I'm hoping we can pick one of those three to play today."
DavidW says, "I suggest waiting a bit for more people."

Floyd | Peter intones the Kulcad scroll. It is long and complicated, and he
Floyd | stumbles over the unfamiliar language. However, the magic is too
Floyd | powerful to be constrained. The more he reads, the clearer his
Floyd | pronunciation becomes, as the magic works through him. As he finishes
Floyd | the incantation, there is a noise like the rushing of open wind
Floyd | through a great tunnel. The secret door ripples and shimmers, trapped
Floyd | in a state between reality and mirage. Then, so suddenly that it is
Floyd | missed in a blink, the door is gone, leaving only a blank wall. There
Floyd | is no trace that it had ever been here.
Floyd |
Floyd | Zarf nods. "Now the other," he says.

Floyd | > CAST CASKLY ON COPIER
Floyd |
Floyd | Valerie intones the caskly spell. The room begins to melt; plaster,
Floyd | plastic, metal, and glass drip down like wax; loose papers lift and
Floyd | twirl in swelling eddies, spinning upwards from all directions.
Floyd |
Floyd | Then, familiar forms start reasserting themselves. Torn pages mend
Floyd | themselves out of the whirlwind, flowing back into place. Cabinet
Floyd | after cabinet slots itself into position, drawers agape, eating
Floyd | documents that file themselves. All is changed. The copier machine
Floyd | refuses its alien origins and becomes happily mudane, humming to life
Floyd | and churning out copies of a wonderfully boring document.
Floyd |
Floyd | "What just happened?" Valerie asks.
Floyd |
Floyd | "Take a look," says Zarf.

Floyd | File Room (as Peter)
Floyd | The file room looks considerably cleaner, perhaps better than before.
Floyd | The reassuring familiarity of its short, slumping ceiling seems now to
Floyd | brighten your morale. Short file cabinets, marked in reverse
Floyd | alphabetical order, stand in a clean line along the walls like a
Floyd | perfect set of teeth. A window affords a beautiful view and a kind
Floyd | square of sunlight.
Floyd |
Floyd | "Congratulations, that's the end of the story," says Zarf, pacing back
Floyd | and forth. "But, that's not *really* the way it happened, is it?"
